Wrapping up summer with our August ROTM, and this one is hotter than the sun itself with Math's Special Forces Humvee. Coming from Quebec, this beast is at home on any terrain, and looks particularly good on a sandy beach if we say so ourselves.
Give us a quick INTRO- who are you? Where do you live?
My name is Math, and we’re a family of six from Lac-Beauport, Quebec, Canada. We love mountain biking, traveling, and exploring new places around the world—especially when we can turn the trip into an adventure!
Give us a quick overview of your rig.
Our rig is a 1995 Special Forces military Humvee that we completely rebuilt in 2020 and turned into the ultimate family adventure vehicle. During our summer road trips, we tow it behind our motorhome and use it to explore once we reach our destination.
Most of the time, you’ll find us driving it with the doors off and our NSR-6 loaded with bikes on the back!
Tell us about any special modifications that make your rig stand out.
Our Humvee is powered by a newer 6.5L GEP Turbo Diesel engine paired with a 4L80 four-speed overdrive transmission, which makes it surprisingly quick for a truck of its size!
We’ve also equipped it with a great sound system, Starlink Mini, two Rigid Industries light bars, a full-size spare tire rack, a Howl propane campfire with a 5-lb propane tank, extra fuel and water tanks, a Hi-Lift jack, and a winch.
Basically, we’ve got everything we need to head off-road, explore remote places, have a great time, and—most importantly—make it back home safely.
What is the best road trip you’ve taken your rig on?
Our favorite road trip was an incredible loop through the western USA. We traveled down the West Coast from Washington through Oregon and California, then made our way back through Utah and Colorado.
The combination of mountain roads, coastal highways, deserts, and incredible scenery made it an unforgettable trip.
What would be your next dream road trip?
Probably the Mexican Gulf Coast. New roads, new scenery, and another adventure for the Humvee!
How long have you had your North Shore Rack?
We’ve had our North Shore Rack since 2017—almost 10 years and more than 100,000 miles of adventures!
After all those road trips, trails, and miles, it’s still holding strong!
In your travels, what is your favorite riding location/favorite trail?
We’re always looking for the most scenic trails we can find, so British Columbia and Alberta definitely win this one.
The combination of incredible mountain scenery and great riding is hard to beat!
Coffee, beer or tea?
Definitely coffee. Nothing beats a great espresso—especially before a day on the trails!
Shuttle/road trip essential tunes?
We love the classic hits from past decades, but you’ll also hear plenty of pop country and country rock playing in the Humvee.
