They Don't Make em Like They Used To
Starting Rig of the Month's second year off with a BANG. We have have the fastest, dreamiest, classic rig yet, and to boot, the first to feature an NSR-2 rack. Mark from Banff Alberta brings us his 66 Mustang Fastback. This rig is as stunning as the Rocky Mountains it calls home, as you can find it on the scenic winding roads between Banff, Valemont and Jasper. We've had many amazing rigs so far, but we might have a new favorite.
Give us a quick INTRO- who are you? Where do you live?
My name is Mark and I’m born and raised in Banff, Alberta, Canada. I have a landscaping business which I took over from my father which I’ve been working on since the age of 9 and I’ve been doing it ever since.
Give us a quick overview of your rig.
It’s a 1966 Mustang Fastback and it’s fully restored and called “Pro Touring” so it’s basically an old looking car with modern suspension and goodies underneath. It goes fast.
Tell us about any special modifications that make your rig stand out.
It has a built up 351 Windsor (motor) which is 430 horse, with a Tremec 5 speed and TCI suspension. The car took me a long time to build; I drove it in the snow last year and it was great.
What is the best road trip you’ve taken your rig on?
Best road trip? Well I only started driving it last year so it would be a road trip up to Jasper, Alberta.. and/or Valemont.
What would be your next dream road trip?
I would say down to Utah- Moab would be an ultimate trip.
How long have you had your North Shore Rack?
Been a couple of years. My sister’s been riding for 10 years so she’s had her NSR-4 rack for 7-8 years. That’s how I knew about the racks and I liked the way they were built and designed.
In your travels, what is your favorite riding location/favorite trail?
Most of the riding I’ve done is in Jasper so I guess I’d say the Overlander in Jasper, a classic.
Coffee, beer or tea?
Well I’m a coffee/beer drinker. Tea just makes me go wee...
Shuttle/road trip essential tunes?
Some good old 80’s Rock and Roll!
