This Bus is a party front to back
Summer of 2024 is officially here, so for July's ROTM feature we're hopping on Bikenetic Bike Shop's party bus, The Keg Ride! Located in Northern Virginia, Bikenetic is a salt of the earth, mom and pop shop that lives and breathes cycling, so much so that the Keg Ride was born to get their growing community and team out to the local trails and events. Keep an eye open for this rig at the next race in the Virginia area and say hi to the Bikenetic crew; between the vibes and the paint job, they'll be hard to miss.
Give us a quick INTRO- who are you? Where do you live?
We are Bikenetic Bike Shop and Team Bikenetic. We’re in Falls Church City, VA - just a couple of hours east of George Washington National Forest and the all mighty Blue Ridge Mountains.
Give us a quick overview of your rig.
The Keg-Ride is a 2011 Ford E450 Cutaway Van/Shuttle Bus with seating for 16. Bought with 160,000 miles, it was a retired private “limo” shuttle. Powered by a V10 gas motor, it’s still got plenty of juice! Our phone number at the shop is (703) Keg-Ride, so naturally we personalized the plate on the bus so it’s impossible to forget. It also makes for a great nickname.
Tell us about any special modifications that make your rig stand out.
We’ve made the seats fold up to accommodate room for gear instead of people, added 6 overhead speakers, a subwoofer, a 32” smart TV, a stand-alone house battery, in-dash DVD player (which broadcasts to the smart TV), painted it Ecto Green, added pink racing stripes and a checkered flag awning.
What is the best road trip you’ve taken your rig on?
Tough call. We have a 100 person race team and about half of us showed up to the Croatan National Forest to race in the Croatan Buck Fifty gravel race out there. The bus was full of teammates, bikes and beer and we even got to do a full throttle lap of the local Carteret County Speedway Oval!
What would be your next dream road trip?
Dream road trip would be to Bentonville, AK. Many of our teammates have been there on their own, but the “Keg Ride” as it’s known, would make a fabulous shuttle van to get there and for some of the trails.
How long have you had your North Shore Rack?
We bought the rack on January 29, 2019
In your travels, what is your favorite riding location/favorite trail?
Locally we have a lot of great small trail systems. If I had to pick my favorite, it would have to be Fountainhead in Lorton, VA about 30mins from the shop.
Coffee, beer or tea?
Beer in the morning. Coffee at night.
Shuttle/road trip essential tunes?
We have a lot of tastes to consider, but everyone seems pretty content with a self-curated station inspired by Robyn. If you’re not into “Dancing on my own” you can find another ride.
